The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southwestern Illinois (NAMI SWI) is holding its 10th Annual 5K Run and Walk for Mental Health on Sat., June 29 in Gateway Grizzlies Ballpark in Sauget, IL.
The 5K run begins at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $25 for a walker or runner.. Registration can be done at the race site starting at 8:00 am that morning or online at http://namiswi.org/metrotab/namiswi_race_walk.php by Friday, June 28, 2013 @ 11:59 PM US/Central
This year, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Officers of Southwestern Illinois will be honored. These trained officers provide assistance to individuals and families that may be experiencing a mental health crisis. Race day events also include educational booths, guest speakers, and family friendly activities.
The money raised will help continue to pay for NAMI Southwestern Illinois’ free educational programs for mental illnesses. Raising awareness and teaching classes about mental health is hoped to help diminish the stigma that is still present in the world today about mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, depression, personality disorders, and several others. With these stigmas still present, those who suffer from mental illnesses find it difficult to cope with their illness.
For every Run or Walk registration, the Grizzlies are giving the participant one free ticket to that day’s game. But wait there’s more…NAMI SWI will also be recognized at the game. But wait there’s more…We can use the 7th inning stretch to congratulate our police officers for a job well done. Gateway Grizzlies Ball Game starts at 7:05 p.m. Saturday June, 29, 2013.
The 5K Run and Walk for Mental Health is NAMI SWI’s major fundraiser, so please be sure to come out and support mental health awareness!
